Mastering involves fine-tuning levels, equalization, compression, and stereo enhancement to ensure that tracks sound their best on all playback systems. Mastering engineers employ a combination of high-end analog and digital equipment to achieve the desired sound, bringing technical expertise and critical listening to the process.
The Future of Mastering — Artificial Intelligence:
Artificial intelligence tools like iZotope’s Ozone, which use machine learning and neural networks, represent a major leap forward in the field. These tools can assist or even automate parts of the mastering process, offering features like smart EQ matching, dynamic range control, and tonal balance adjustments. By analyzing large amounts of audio data, these AI systems learn to apply genre-specific and context-aware mastering techniques (Stewart, 2023).
Research shows that AI is increasingly being accepted in mastering.
